We recently got the new V-Class van here in the Indian market from Mercedes-Benz, and the German luxury car manufacturer has now given this people mover an electric avatar. Dubbed as the EQV, the electric V-Class will be built at the brands Vitoria plant in Spain along with the internal combustion sibling and will be on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2019.
Powering the Mercedes-Benz EQV is an electric motor producing 204 PS of power and 362 Nm of torque with brake energy recuperation, start stop system and other such driving assistance features for a cleaner and drag-less drive. The EQV can reach a top speed of 160 kmph and has a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery placed under the floor. With this battery placement, there is no interior space that is compromised and the MPV can drive for 405 km on a single charge. From 10-80% making use of a 110 kW fast charger, the EQV will need 45 minutes.
Cosmetic changes to the EQV compared to the V-Class include a new bumper which houses the charging point, new alloy wheels, new front grille, new front and rear bumpers, reworked centre console area, repositioned front arm rest along with other standard kit that the V-Class already offers.
In India, the V-Class comes with the V220d engine option which is a 2.2L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel motor producing 163 HP of power @ 3800 RPM and has a 0-100 sprint time of 10.9 seconds which is impressive. This version has a top speed of 195 kmph, comes matched to an automatic gearbox and measures 5140mm in length, 1928mm in width and 1880mm in height.
The Mercedes-Benz EQV is the first such all-electric luxury van from any manufacturer.
The Indian V-Class V220d Expression is priced at INR 68.40 lakh, while the Exclusive trim costs INR 81.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The V-Class in India can be had in a 6-seater or 7-seater configuration.
