Maruti Suzuki has launched the CNG fuel powered variants of their popular Alto hatchback. Dubbed as the S-CNG version, the 2020 Maruti Suzuki Alto will be available in two variants which include Alto BS6 LXi S-CNG for INR 4,32,700 and Alto BS6 LXi (O) S-CNG for INR 4,36,300 (ex-showroom Delhi). The CNG kits are straight factory fit, so they come with warranty as well.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto S-CNG delivers 31.59 km/kg mileage and coupled with the cleaner BS6 engine, it is even more environmentally friendly when it comes to tailpipe emissions. This variant has an independent ECU and smarter injection systems to improve efficiency and mileage along with respctable performance across terrains.
Maruti Suzuki has sold more than 1,00,000 BS6 compliant Alto cars already here in India before the emission compliance deadline. The Alto nameplate has been on sale for 15 years, and is one of the most popular budget hatchbacks in India. With more than 38 lakh total sales, the Alto with timely updates has stayed relevant even with increasing competition. The S-CNG variant also has a lea proof design for the gas tank along with an integrated harness. The kit also offers an automatic fuel changeover in times with the gas tank runs dry and the fuel indicator for the CNG kit is also easily readable to the driver.
Powering the Maruti Suzuki Alto S-CNG is the same 796cc, 3-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor producing 30.1 kW of power @ 6000 RPM in CNG mode and 35.3 kW of power @ 6000 RPM in petrol mode. The torque output is rated at 60 Nm for CNG mode and 69 Nm in petrol mode. Engine is matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox and there is no AMT transmission offered on this bi-fuel variant.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto is now the brands entry-level car after the 800 model was taken off the shelves a few years back.
