KTM has just launched the quarter-litre adventure motorcycle in the Indian market, the KTM 250 Adventure. The new entrant in the Adventure segment is almost INR 50,000 more affordable than its elder brother KTM 390 Adventure. The 250 Adventure now competes with the most sought after adventure motorcycle in the Indian market, the Royal Enfield Himalayan. In this specification comparison, we will pin the 250 Adventure with the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
Engine:
The KTM 250 Adventure is powered by a BS6 compliant 248.8cc single-cylinder water-cooled four-stroke four-valve motor that produces 30 hp of power and 24 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper assist clutch with electronic fuel injection. The Royal Enfield Himalayan is powered by a BS6 compliant 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled SOHC engine that produces 24.6 Hp of power and 32 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed gearbox. The larger displacement long-stroke block produces less power but more torques. While the KTM 250 Adventure weighs 156 kg dry the Himalayan tips the scale at 199 kgs at the kerb.
Chassis & Suspension:
The KTM 250 Adventure features a tubular steel trellis chassis that rides on 43mm WP Apex USD front forks with 177mm travel, WP Apex rear monoshock with 170mm wheel travel. The KTM 250 Adventure features 19-inch front wheel shod in 100/90 tyre and a 17-inch rear wheel shod in 130/80 tyre on the rear. The Himalayan comes with a half-duplex split cradle frame that rides on 41mm right side telescopic oil damped front fork with 200mm of wheel travel and a link-type monoshock suspension on the rear with 180mm of wheel travel. The Himalayan features a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked rims shod in 90/90 front and 120/90 rear, dual-sport tyres.
Braking & Dimensions:
Stopping power on the KTM 250 Adventure comes from 320mm front disc with a 4-piston hydraulically operated calliper, 230mm rear disc brake with 2-piston hydraulic calliper equipped with switchable dual-channel ABS with supermoto mode. The KTM 250 Adventure offers 200mm of ground clearance and 855mm of saddle height. Braking duties on the Royal Enfield Himalayan are handled by a 300mm single disc with the dual-piston calliper on the front and a 240mm single disc with a single-piston calliper on the rear equipped with a Dual-channel ABS switchable to single-channel ABS with Rear-wheel ABS control deactivation. The Royal Enfield Himalayan comes with 220mm of ground clearance and 800mm of seat height.
