2020 KTM 250 Adventure Vs. Bajaj Dominar 250 – Specification Comparison

The touring segment is booming with more manufacturer gaining interest and introducing new motorcycles even in the much-affordable quarter-litre segment. Two recently launched motorcycles that offer unparalleled highway touring capabilities are the KTM 250 Adventure and the Dominar 250. Here are the technical specifications of the 250 Adventure against the Dominar 250.

Engine:

The KTM 250 Adventure is powered by the tried and tested BS6 emission-compliant 248.8cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled four-stroke four-valve DOHC engine with electronic fuel injection that produces 30 PS of power and 24 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper assist clutch. The Bajaj Dominar 250 is powered by a BS6 compliant 248.77cc, single-cylinder, water-cooled four-stroke, four-valve, DOHC fuel-injected twin-spark engine derived from the same 250cc motor that powers the 250 Adventure as well as the 250 Duke but is tuned to produce slightly less power at 27 PS and 23.5 Nm of torque which is slightly less than the KTM. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

Chassis & Suspension: 

The KTM 250 Adventure is underpinned by one of the best chassis and suspension in the quarter-litre segment. The ADV class motorcycle features a tubular split steel trellis frame with a bolt-on sub-frame that rides on 43mm WP Apex upside down hydraulic forks with a long 177mm of wheel travel on the front and preload-adjustable WP Apex rear monoshock with 170mm wheel travel. The Dominar 250 features a beam type perimeter frame that rides on 37mm diameter upside-down hydraulic front fork suspension with 135mm of wheel travel on the front and multi-step adjustable Monoshock with Nitrox gas charging on the rear with 110mm of wheel travel.

Brakes, Dimensions & Wheels:

The stopping power on the KTM 250 Adventure comes from 320mm front disc with a 4-piston hydraulically operated calliper, 230mm rear disc brake with 2-piston hydraulic calliper equipped with switchable dual-channel ABS with supermoto mode. The Dominar 250 comes with 300mm hydraulically operated front disc and 230mm single disc on the rear with dual-channel ABS. The Dominar is not offered with a switchable ABS system. The 250 Adventure is offered with a 200mm high ground clearance and 855 mm of seat height. The Dominar 250 features 157mm of ground clearance and 800mm of seat height. While the 250 Adventure rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels with dual-sport tyres the Dominar 250 comes with 17-inch front and rear alloy wheels shod in road-biased tyres.

Features:

The KTM 250 Adventure comes with upright Adventure styling with a large front apron and large flyscreen for wind protection. The motorcycle also offers ergonomic seats and handlebars for long-distance touring and a dash on broken trails. The 250 Adventure is offered with a multi-faceted reflector headlamp with integrated LED daytime running lights, LED indicators and LED taillamps. The 250 Adventure comes with a large monochrome LCD screen and a 12V DC charging port for GPS navigation devices and smartphones. The Dominar 250 is designed to be a mile muncher and features a comfortable mid-set design that enables long-distance touring with minimal fatigue to the rider. The long-wheelbase also offers enough space for luggage and the motorcycle is offered with LED headlamps, LED turn indicators and a digital negative LCD instruments cluster.

Price:

The KTM 250 Adventure is priced at INR 248,256 ex-showroom Delhi and the Bajaj Dominar 250 is priced at INR 165,715 ex-showroom, Delhi.
