2020 Hyundai Verna facelift delivers 25 kmpl mileage

Hyundai launched the new 2020 facelift mid-size sedan the Hyundai Verna in the Indian market with prices starting INR 9.31 lakh ex-showroom, India. The 2020 Hyundai Verna is available for purchase through the brand’s ‘Click to Buy’ online sales platform. While the new facelift offers new exterior styling the changes are not limited to cosmetics and equipment but the brand has also introduced the new Verna with new BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engines.

Though Hyundai has revealed the engine specifications on the new 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines the brand has not yet revealed the fuel efficiency on the same. But, according to a media report, the mileage figures for the 2020 Hyundai Verna are no longer a secret.

Starting with the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 115 ps of power and 144 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual and an IVT (Intelligent Variable Transmission) automatic gearbox. In terms of fuel economy, the manual transmission version is expected to return 17.7 kmpl of mileage 0.3 kmpl more than the outgoing more powerful 1.6-litre/126ps petrol engine. The IVT (CVT) automatic version is likely to return 18.45 kmpl versus the 15.9 kmpl as seen on the torque converter type automatic on the outgoing model. 

The turbo-petrol engine on the 2020 Verna comes with a 1.0-litre turbocharged gasoline direct injection petrol engine that produces 120 ps of power and 172 Nm of torque matched to a 7-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission). The 1.0-litre turbo engine is reported to claim an ARAI certified mileage of 19.2 kmpl.

The 2020 Hyundai Verna also comes with a 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine that produces 115 ps of power and 250 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The manual transmission version is said to deliver an ARAI tested 25 kmpl and the automatic model is reported to deliver 21.3 kmpl. 

The new Hyundai Verna competes with the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento.
