South Korean Carmaker Hyundai has been working on the facelift model of Verna sedan and now some spied images of the sedan car have surfaced the internet which reveals that the Verna is likely to get an extensive exterior styling change to bring the car in line with the international-spec latest-generation Sonata and Elantra.
According to the images, the exterior styling of the new Verna features a very sharp design upfront with a large cascading grille that integrates the inner edges of the completely new headlights which have pentagonal chrome inserts around the projector unit which separate the different sections such as high-Beam and turn indicators. The front bumper gets a chiselled sharp look with an integrated splitter effect finished in black and satin silver. On the side profile, the new Verna gets a newly designed alloy wheel with flared wheel arches and a blacked-out B-pillar. The rear also gets refreshed design with a new wraparound taillight and a reflector strip that runs the car’s width across the boot lid, new bumpers with aeroducts on the outer edges integrated with red reflectors and a diffuser effect which hides the tail pipes.
In the engine department, the new Verna is likely to come with a BSVI compliant 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options which will be shared with the soon to be launched Kia Seltos and are also likely to make it to the 2020 Hyundai Creta mid-sized SUV and the Hyundai Elantra as well. The new 1.5-litre petrol engine is likely to come with a 48V mild-hybrid and is speculated to be sold as an option on the Hyundai Verna. The diesel, however, will be downgraded to produce 115 HP of power and 250 Nm of torque from the current version which produces 128 HP of power and 260 Nm of torque.
However, there is no confirmation if the brand will bring the same specifics to the Indian market as the car has been spied in China but the brand’s global car strategy is likely to bring the same model in India as well. In terms of competition, the new Hyundai Verna will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the Skoda Rapid, the Volkswagen Vento, Toyota Yaris, etc. and the car is likely to come to India next year.
