For the mass market, Hyundai has already launched the 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox with the Venue compact-SUV. Now, reports suggest that the new generation Hyundai i20 which will debut in 2020 will also come with this superior fast-shifting automatic gearbox. The all-new 3rd generation Hyundai i20 has already started testing globally, and it already gets a 7-speed DCT in the older model internationally. This would be the first time the Hyundai i20 in India will get a 7-speed gearbox. So no torque converter or AMT for cost efficiency, this model would rival directly with the Volkswagen Polo GT TSi.
Hyundai has already launched the Grand i1o Nios in India and the next hatchback to debut would be the new i20 next year. Even the new Creta is expected to get a 7-speed automatic gearbox. The new DCT will offer faster shift times and allow for an even more engaging drive. It is possible that the 2020 Hyundai i2o will share the same 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine producing 120 PS of power with this 7-speed gearbox as in the venue.
The Hyundai Venue already accounts for a good bookings with this turbo-petrol DCT combination, and in the new-generation i20, things could be the same.
The 2020 Hyundai i20 is also expected to get a new 1.5L diesel engine replacing the current 1.4L VGT unit. We don’t know the power output yet, but the same engine produces 115 PS of power in the recently launched Kia Seltos.
The 2020 Hyundai i20 would be lighter, more powerful, spacious and loaded with features which are not available in the product at the moment. The new i20 will also get connected features we’ve seen in the Venue. Spyshots reveal the new design with a cascading front grille, projector headlamp, LED tail lamp, shark fin antenna, dual tone alloy wheels, etc.
