South Korean manufacturer, Hyundai launched its best-seller mid-size SUV Creta back in 2015 and now according to a press report, Hyundai Motor India is developing the replacement of the current Creta with the new second-generation model expected to be launched by the year 2020.
In the engine department, the new Creta is expected to come with new BSVI compliant 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, both expected to belt out 115 HP of power. These new engines are likely to power the BSVI facelift of the Verna and the sister brand Kia’s new entrant in the Indian market, the Kia Seltos. According to a media report, the brand is likely to discontinue the use of the 1.4-litre diesel, 1.6-litre diesel and 1.6-litre petrol engines post BSVI roll-out.
The Creta is marketed as ‘ix25’ in the Chinese market and the second-generation of the car has already been unveiled. In terms of styling, the ix25 follows the design philosophy as seen on the recently launched Hyundai Venue. The upcoming i20 which is currently under tests is also likely to share design highlights with the ix25.
On the front end, the car has a split type headlight design, with the main headlight unit sitting on the bumper. The headlight appears to have a 3 pod projector unit and lower on the bumper are fog lamps with cornering assist lights and faux silver finished skid plate. The rear also gets an unconventional tail light setup likely to be in full LED and silver finished skid plates on the bumper.
The new Creta is expected to come with a vertically oriented touchscreen infotainment system much like the MG Hector and the interiors are likely to get a premium finish with the brand likely to use faux-wood and aluminium materials on the dashboard. It is also being speculated that the brand will use soft-touch materials and flat-bottom steering wheel. Top-spec variants are likely to get heated and ventilated seats and electronic parking brakes.
The new Creta is expected to come in two seating configuration with the 5-seater version to be launched at the beginning followed by a 7-seater car to be added in the future.
