We’ve been waiting, and finally, the all-new 5th generation Honda City has been revealed. The new generation Honda City has already started road testing on Indian soil, and will make a debut after the BSVI timeline, obviously it will come with the latest compliant engines to the Indian market. The all-new Honda City was revealed in Thailand where it will go on sale first, and this model is bigger than ever to rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento.
The 5th generation Honda City is a massive 100mm longer than before and 53mm wider. However, the overall height is now down by 28mm and even the wheelbase is smaller by 11mm. Nevertheless, the new car looks good enough to take the fight a notch higher in the C2 sedan segment.
On the outside, the side profile of the car lets you think that the new Honda City has evolved from the design language of the Amaze compact-sedan. The car gets bold and prominent cuts and crease lines all around. You get a thick chrome strip on the front grille along with full LED headlamps and LED DRLs. Even the fog lamps are expected to be LED along with the new LED tail lamp as well. The brand also showcased side body skirts and bumper extensions which could be sold as accessory kits in India. The car gets chrome accents on the door handles and even on the tailgate. Alloy wheels are 15″ diamond cut multi-spoke units.
Inside, finally you have a new design. While most Honda cars in India share the same dashboard, the City will come with a new layered dashboard design with a twin-pot analogue speedometer cluster, touchscreen infotainment, conventional AC climate control replacing the touch panel, touchscreen infotainment, leather upholstery, chrome door handles, soft touch materials, driver arm rest, etc.
Powering the Honda City would be an all-new engine range. The 2020 Honda City will get a 1.0L, turbocharged petrol engine producing 122 HP of power and 173 Nm of torque matched to a CVT gearbox with paddle shifts. Sadly, no manual gearbox for this turbo-petrol engine but this one will deliver 23.8 kmpl mileage. The 1.5L petrol motor now gets i-MMD mild hybrid technology, but specs were not revealed. Honda will also upgrade the existing 1.5L diesel engine to BSVI standards for the Indian market.
The 5th generation Honda City will get 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, hill start assist, parking sensors, reversing camera, seat belt reminder, speed alert system, etc. when it comes to India.
