Honda launched the 5th generation ‘City’ in Thailand near the end of CY2019 and now, the brand is getting ready to introduce the new City in the Indian market soon. This all-new 5th generation City sedan will be revealed in March 2020 and will replace the current model which by the way has already updated itself to BS6 emission norms.
Compared to the current Honda City, the all-new 2020 Honda City is going to get a completely redesigned front fascia which corresponds to the South-East Asian market car and will get a new front grille which blends in with the sleek LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights. The Indian-spec car will also get chrome inserts on the grille and the rear of the car will get wraparound taillights and the overall silhouette of the car has a coupe-like look owing to its sloping roofline. The new City will be 100mm longer, 53mm wider, 28mm lower and will have a wheelbase which will be 11mm less than the current model. On the interior, the new Honda City will get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multifunctional steering wheel and twin-dial instrument cluster. Spyshots of the 5th generation City confirm that the car will also have beige seats and dark themed interiors.
In the engine department, the new Honda City will be powered by a BS6 compliant, 1.5-litre, i-VTEC naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 119 PS of power and comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT automatic gearbox. In the international markets, the new City has also been launched in its sporty RS avatar which comes with a 1.0-litre turbocharged i-VTEC petrol motor that produces 122 HP of power and 173 Nm of torque.
Honda Cars India Limited has also confirmed that the manufacturer has entirely sold the BS4 compliant models in December of 2019 and from January 2020 only BS6 compliant cars were dispatched. The manufacturer has shifted to BS6 production in both its plants at Greater Noida and Tapukara. Honda has already dispatched 5,299 domestic units in January 2020 and the number of exported units stands at 182 units for the last month.
The Honda City in India competes with likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Verna and Toyota Yaris.
