Updated version of the Volkswagen Polo and Vento have been spotted testing in India and the Polo is in the fifth-generation in our country while the European markets got the car updated to the 6th generation around two years ago. Volkswagen in India has kept the two by upgrading them cosmetically, on various occasions and now the updated models of the cars that were spotted at a dealership, sans camouflage.
The new Polo and Vento are ready to hit the market with minor revisions in the front and rear end design. The bumpers of the cars gets a black diffuser similar to the GTI. It also gets GTI inspired grey alloy wheels with black bolts. The new upgraded models will also bring safety enhancements as directed by the new Automotive Industry Safety, AIS-145 regulations which include seat belt warning for both Driver and passenger, Airbags, ABS, Overspeed warning buzzer, reverse parking sensors, etc.
The Polo in India is powered by a naturally aspirated, 1.0-litre, MPI, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 76 PS of power and 95 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Another diesel engine that currently powers the Polo in India is a 1.5-litre, TDI, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 90 PS of power and 230 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the Polo GT comes with a 1.2-litre TSI turbocharged petrol motor that produces 105 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque and comes with a 7-speed DSG transmission and a 1.5-litre TDI turbocharged diesel engine that produces 110 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission
Vento
The Vento is available in two petrol engines 1.6-litre, MPI, petrol producing 105 PS of power and 153 Nm of torque and a 1.2-litre, TSI, petrol with 105 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque coupled to a manual gearbox on the naturally aspirated MPI engine and a DSG gearbox on the turbocharged TSI engine. In the diesel guise, the Vento is available in the 1.5-litre, TDI that produces 110 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque mated with a manual transmission with an optional DSG gearbox.
The diesel engines are unlikely to be upgraded to BSVI norms and a new 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine which will be localised in India is likely to power the new Polo and Vento in the future, and these engines are also likely to power the Skoda Rapid.
