Maruti Suzuki India Limited has introduced the latest version of their best selling budget hatchback since the past 15 years, the Alto. The new Alto will get a BSVI compliant engine and will also meet all the safety requirements as per the AIS 145 (Automotive Industry Standard). The new Alto will also be recoverable up to 95% and will be 85% recyclable to meet End of Life Vehicles environmental responsibilities.
The new Alto will see some changes due to the addition of new features and safety equipment. The new Alto is also the first car in its segment to get these many safety features along with an emission compliant engine.
On the exterior, the new Alto will get a redesigned grille and reworked headlamps, a new bumper and new side fender design on the front end. On the interior, a fresh dashboard with new air conditioning ducts and new speedometer is seen. The upholstery and interior trim get a dual tone finish and it gets some usable ergonomically designed bottle holders in the front and rear.
The new Alto now comes with Smart Play Dock, a new infotainment system which can connect to the user’s phone and transform it into a touch interface with access to calls, music, navigation, etc. The new Alto also gets keyless entry.
Safety wise the new Alto now comes with ABS and EBD along with other features such as driver side airbag, over speed alert system, seat belt reminders for both driver and front passenger and reverse parking sensor. These features come standard to meet with the new safety guidelines. The new Alto also complies with pedestrian safety and crash regulations, that will be enforced soon.
The new BSVI engine on the Alto will reduce nearly 25% less of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and meet the new strict emission standards. The new BSVI compliant engine is a 796cc petrol motor with a maximum output of 47.3 HP @ 6000 RPM and 69 Nm of torque @ 3500 RPM. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The new Maruti Suzuki Alto weighs in at 695 kg (kerb) and has solid discs at the front and a drum brake setup on the rear. It can seat 5 people and has a fuel tank capacity of 35-litres.
The new Alto is 3445mm in length and 1515mm in width and 1475mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2360mm. The suspension on the new Alto is a gas-filled McPherson strut and a 3-link rigid axle suspension on the rear and has 145/80 R12 tyres and steel rims.
