Spotted testing out in the open on Indian soil, what you see here is the hard top version of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, 2-door version. The Jeep Wrangler has been on offer at an exhorbitant price tag here in India, and this short-wheelbase, 2-door variant could spice things up if at all it sees a commercial launch. We expect Jeep to reveal the India-spec car at the Auto Expo 2020.
The top spec Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 2-Door in the American market costs close to $38,000. That is less than INR 28,00,000 when converted. But if this arrives in India, and as a CBU, the Jeep Rubicon will also be outrageously priced, think about INR 50 lakh or so. We really wish Jeep considers local assembly to make this a success in our market who has a fetish for SUVs.
Abroad, you have 2 engine options for the Wrangler Rubicon. The first one is a 2.0L, DOHC, DI, turbo, eTorque engine and the other one is a 3.6L, V6, 24V, VVT motor. You have a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic gearbox option with the Rubicon. Since this is a Jeep, yes it is 4Ă—4 capable and comes with either Rock-Trac part-time 4WD or the Command-Track part-time 4WD system.
The 2-door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon gets safety features such as rollover mitigation, stability program, hill start assist, side airbags, TPMS, traction control and trailer sway damping for additional carriage compatibility.
Spyshots reveal the following details:
Meanwhile, Mahindra is also working on a new generation Thar for the Indian market. From the spyshots we have seen so far, the all-new 2020 Thar is also going to be very similar in design to this Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. And be assured, the Mahindra Thar will be super cheap, when compared to Jeep SUVs and still be very, very capable off-the-road. So, the question remains… Will you buy Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 2-door or the new-age Thar and save a lot of money?
