Skoda Auto India has started delivering its first sub-four-meter SUV, Kylaq, from Skoda Auto Volkswagen India in its Pune factory. This has also resulted in SAVWIPL increasing its manufacturing capacity by 30%, which is up to 255,000 units annually.
The Skoda Kylaq is the sixth vehicle in the Group to be constructed on the reliable MQB-A0-IN platform with high levels of localisation. It is designed and developed locally, keeping in mind the areas of safety, comfort, quality, and global design. To increase turnaround time and lower the cost of ownership, SAVWIPL has also added 10% to its already robust local supplier base.
With Kylaq’s output, SAVWIPL increased the production capacity of its Chakan Plant by 30% to 255,000 units per year. Production lines are currently operating at 40 jobs per hour (JPH), indicating a considerable improvement in operational efficiency. Škoda Kylaq integrates eco-friendly materials like bamboo fibre in the cabin, hence promoting green innovation. SAVWIPL is aggressively growing its sales and service network throughout India to better serve its clients. According to the corporation, by 2025, it intends to have 350 locations across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
Kylaq was introduced at the starting price of INR 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes in a 7 variant option. It is equipped with a 1.0 TSI turbocharged petrol engine. This engine unit produces 114 bhp of power and 178 Nm of torque. It is mated to either an automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
Further, it comes with a 446-litre boot capacity. The Kylaq boasts the greatest boot capacity in its class and an expansive interior. More than 25 active and passive safety measures, such as six airbags and a multi-collision brake, are provided in the Kylaq.
