The ‘Sportz’ variant of the XUV300 was quite a hit when Mahindra first showcased it at the Auto Expo 2020. The plan was to launch the car in April 2020, but then Covid happened. Fast forward to 2022, everything seems to be getting back to normal, including Mahindra. As per the latest reports, we could soon see the XUV300 Sportz trim in the showrooms.
The key differential is the engine, which is a 1.2-litre direct injection three-cylinder turbo-petrol unit. The output figure reads as 131hp, 230 Nm, which is a good 21 hp and 30Nm more than the standard petrol XUV300. The trim will only be available with a manual gearbox. Mahindra will also equip the SUV with a mild-hybrid start-stop system. This tool will prove to reduce CO2 emissions, thus helping it meet CAFE targets.
Moreover, this will also aid in enhancing fuel efficiency while the vehicle is idling. Three variants are expected to be offered with XUV300 Sportz trim. These are namely, W6, W8 and W8(O). Key features include 17-inch alloys, auto headlamps and wipers, sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ESP, all-wheel disc brakes and cruise control, to name a few.
The unit on display at the Auto Expo did have body decals and striking red front brake callipers. Furthermore, on the inside too, we saw black interiors with red stitching. Thus, all these could also make their way to the production model. We do not have any official launch date just as of yet.
Once launched, the XUV300 Sportz will take on the sporty version of the Hyundai Venue, the Venue N-Line. The launch of this South Korean SUV is set for June 16, 2022. Sporty versions of production cars are getting popular now, with Hyundai currently in the news with its N-Line series. We see a similar setup from Volkswagen with its GT Line. Thus, we expect more companies to take this route and offer the customers a differentiated experience.
