Royal Enfield began their journey in November 1901 by launching their 1st motorcycle at the Stanley Cycle Show in London. Since then, the iconic brand has gone to inspire millions in terms of pure motorcycling for the last 120 years. Since 1901, Royal Enfield has preserved its legacy of building simple, fun, and authentic motorcycles for consumers and fans alike.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, Royal Enfield has unveiled the 120th Anniversary Editions of their 650 Twin motorcycles. The event held at EICMA 2021 revealed the new Interceptor INT 650 alongside the new Continental GT 650. Keeping its 120-year legacy in mind, the brand’s new motorcycles present a unique opportunity for all global enthusiasts.
For both new bikes, Royal Enfield will implement a limited production run of just 480 units. The brand will distribute 120 units each for India, Europe, the Americas, and South-East Asia. Each of these regions will comprise 60 Continental GT 650’s and 60 Interceptor INT 650’s. Royal Enfield 650 Twin motorcycles have received a tremendous response among riding enthusiasts globally and raked in numerous awards.
The brand has achieved global recognition and expansion along with success thanks to the current-gen 650 Twin motorcycles. These bikes have taken inspiration from the highly successful Interceptor 750 and Continental GT 250 from the 1960s. Due to their significance, relevance, and success, the 650 Twin bikes are the perfect candidates for the 120th-anniversary edition.
Royal Enfield’s design teams from India and UK have designed the 120 Anniversary editions to showcase their milestone and exclusivity. Both bikes feature a unique, in-house developed, rich black-chrome tank colour scheme using chroming technology. This has been developed at Royal Enfield’s original 1950’s manufacturing factory located at Thiruvottiyur, Chennai in India. Both bikes implement chrome using alternate, sustainable trivalent eco-friendly processes along with blacked-out components.
For the first time, the 120th Anniversary Edition will feature the engine, silencer, and other elements in black colour schemes. Royal Enfield will also offer a range of Genuine Motorcycle Accessories, including flyscreens, engine guards, and heel guards. Other accessories include touring and bar end mirrors, amongst others, painted in black to compliment the overall design.
To celebrate the brand’s handcrafted DNA, the special edition bikes will feature an exclusive, handmade die-cast brass tank badge. Royal Enfield has created these badges by collaborating with the renowned ‘Sirpi Senthil’ family, who are multi-generational artisans. Originating from the temple town of Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, this family has specialized itself in making numerous brass effigies.
To further commemorate the handcrafted legacy, both bikes will feature the legendary Royal Enfield hand-painted pinstripes. To maintain exclusivity, the brand will feature a unique serial number on each of the motorcycles. Starting from number 1 out of 60, each bike will represent any of the four regions. To complete the look, Royal Enfield will also implement a side panel decal to commemorate its 120 years.
On December 6th, 2021, Royal Enfield will begin the limited-time online sale of the special edition bikes in India. Prospective customers can visit the official online website and register themselves starting November 24th. Royal Enfield will then share the sales process details to the prospective customers via their registered email addresses.
