Honda is soon going to launch the all-new CR-V in India. This would replace the current model, and this time, the CR-V will be offered with a diesel engine option as well. This would widen its appeal and hence, result in better sales. This time around, the CR-V would be a 7-seater SUV and will rival the likes of Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.
Powering the Honda CR-V would be a 1.6L diesel engine, which has never been seen on any car in India. This new i-DTEC diesel motor would deliver 120 HP of power and 300 Nm of torque matched to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. While the performance numbers don’t feel impressive compared to competition, the CR-V is expected to be lighter, and hence, will offer peppy driving experience. The CR-V in markets abroad gets a twin-turbo motor with 160 HP power output. We’re getting a single-turbo engine.
This new engine will also be cheaper to build, as Honda is already producing components for the same in India, for exports. It is rumoured that the new CR-V would be priced close to INR 30 lakh, on-road.
Currently in India, we have a 2.0L 2WD petrol motor producing 156 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque while a bigger 2.4L AWD motor produces 190 PS of power and 226 Nm of torque. Expect just one of the two petrol motors to be retained.
