Well, we all know by now that the Tata Motors Altroz premium hatchback has a lot of show. But seems like the brand is keen to give the car more GO to meet the SHOW. Rumours online are suggesting that a 110 BHP Tata Altroz diesel is on the cards, but for a 2021 debut. We all knew that Tata Motors would most definitely give us a JTP version of the Altroz. But this time, chances are that the JTP variant could be diesel-powered unlike the gasoline burning Tiago. No confirmation has been received on this, but the Tata Altroz JTP would get the same engine spec like the Nexon, but only once BS6 emission norms kick in. We also expect this Altroz JTP to be on the stands at the 2020 Auto Expo next month.
However, a JTP version of the Altroz is contingent that the sales numbers for this premium hatchback are promising enough. When launched, the Altroz will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo. Yes, the Tata Altroz would be spacious and it will come with all the features needed as per segment standards, but still, this is the brands first attempt at the premium hatchback space and they would like to test the waters before going out all guns blazing with a hot-hatch avatar with the Altroz JTP.
For now, towards the end of January 2020, Tata Motors will launch the Altroz with a 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol producing 85 BHP of power and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder diesel producing 89 BHP of power. Both engines will come matched to a manual gearbox for now, but rumours also hint at an advanced dual-clutch automatic version being developed for this premium hatchback.
Tata Motors is betting big with the Altroz. It is probably the only car very true to the design DNA of the concept model, and hence, there will surely be a lot of eyeballs moving around the launch phase of this car.
