Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle (PV) has announced that the brand has rolled out the 10,000th Safari SUV. The brand achieved the feat in just five months, despite the lockdown restriction and stringent COVID-19 safety protocols. The 10,000th Tata Safari rolled out of the Pune manufacturing facility. In February 2021, the brand rolled out 100 units of the Safari and, in just four months, the last 9,900 units. The brand credits the strong response from the customers for the growing popularity of the 6-/7-seater SUV.
Tata Motors also revealed that Tata Safari commands a current market share of 25.2% in its category. The brand boasts that the new Safari is one of the top-selling 6/7-seater high SUVs in the segment. The Safari has achieved this high demand thanks to the progressive design, rich interiors, safety features, lively driving experience, comfort and three rows of seats. Furthermore, the Tata Safari and the Tata Harrier, which underpins the Safari, constitute a market share of 41.2% in the High SUV segment.
Powering the Tata Safari is an FCA-derived 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. The engine produces 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. The engine also powers the Tata Harrier in India. The motor comes with two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter type automatic. The Safari SUV is a front-wheel-drive car but also comes with Terrain Response modes. The SUV is underpinned by the OMEGA-ARC platform, derivation of the Land Rover D8 platform. The Safari measures 4661mm in length, 1894mm in width, 1786mm in height.
The Tata Safari comes loaded with features such as Ashwood finished dashboard with a soft-touch top and Oyster White upholstery. The SUV also gets 8.8-inch infotainment with IRA connected features and a 7-inch digital instruments cluster with an analogue speedometer. The Safari also gets a JBL speaker system, Majestic Dome panoramic sunroof with a Global closure feature, and a plethora of active and passive safety features.
