Commemorating this occasion is a 740Li M Sport that will receive the all-exclusive special badge. 1 lakh cars is not a small number, and for a giant like BMW to post his figure speaks volumes of the manufacturer’s dedication to the Indian market. BMW also thanked the efforts of each and everyone involved with them.

The manufacturing plant in Chennai has been lauded for its hard work, efficiency and consistency. This is because of these qualities that every BMW or MINI car locally produced here in Chennai is of the same international quality standards as any other BMW plant across the world. The manufacturing facility currently runs on 100 per cent green electricity. This is a great step in keeping sustainability as the central theme of development. In terms of working personnel, the total number of employees at BMW Group India is over 650.

Localisation The Key Ingredient For Success

As of today, BMW Group in India has increased its localisation by up to 50 per cent. This calls up for more collaboration with local supplier partners, thus bringing more values into the ecosystem. BMW Group Plant in Chennai aims to further raise the bar in sustainable manufacturing that will take care of the environment as well. The manufacturing plant in Chennai first started its operations on 29th March 2007. And in the next 15 years, the carmaker grew, even more, stronger adding more products and expanding its production capacity.

As of today, BMW produces 13 models locally. This includes BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, BMW 3 Series, BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine, BMW M340i, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, BMW 7 Series, BMW X1, BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X7 and MINI Countryman. With the growing demand for electric vehicles, we can expect BMW to update its manufacturing plant to locally produce electric vehicles in India.
