Tata Tiago JTP revealed, budget ‘Hot Hatch’ with 114 PS power

Tata Motors has officially taken the wraps off their sporty budget hatchback, the Tiago JTP. This entry level Hot Hatch will bring performance oriented / spirited driving dynamics in a segment where we usually have vanilla cars with nothing much to talk about. The Tiago JTP will be launched tomorrow.

This is a performance-spec version of the Tiago, and the Tiago JTP is much more than just a cosmetic makeover.

Powering the car is a 1.2L Turbocharged, Revotron petrol motor producing 114 PS of power @ 5000 RPM and 150 Nm of torque between 2000-4000 RPM matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox only. Tata Motors claims that the gearing has been worked upon for faster acceleration and spirited driving. You also get Sport & City driving modes with the Tiago JTP and the car claims to achieve a 0-100 sprint in 9.95 seconds. Also, you now get a twin barrel exhaust which sounds sporty.

Rivals? Not any direct competition, because this Hot Hatch, although a Hot Hatch, will slot in a segment below the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS & the Volkswagen Polo GT. One can consider the Ford Figo S as a direct competition though.

Other changes to the styling include:

  • Sporty front and rear bumper
  • Black diffuser
  • New grille
  • JTP badging
  • Twin exhaust muffler
  • Twin-pod projector headlamp with chrome accents
  • 15″ machine finish alloy wheels
  • Wider 185/65 patch tyres
  • Side skirts
  • Contrast painted ORVMs
  • Rear spoiler
  • Dual tone paint job with gloss black roof
  • Red accents on AC vents
  • Leather wrapped steering with contrast stitching
  • New seat upholstery
  • Aluminium ABC pedals
  • Harman ConnectNext stereo with 8-speakers
  • Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Cornering Stability Control
  • Reverse parking sensors with Camera

Mechanically, the suspension of the Tiago JTP has been retuned for better handling along with reworking the EPS system as well for a sporty feel. The ride height of the car has also been lowered by 4mm.
