Written by Kanad Kalasur

Piaggio has announced a new version of the Vespa 946. The scooter is celebrating its 10th year anniversary this year and Vespa has made a 1000-unit limited edition of the bike. Further, to honour the Chinese Lunar calendar, the company has also announced a series of special scooter models that will run for the next 12 years in honour of the Chinese Zodiac.

What’s new in the Vespa 946 10° scooter

The Vespa 946 10° Anniversario celebrates the year of the rabbit, which commenced January 22, 2023. The bike gets a new green shade, along with rabbit decals and a hand sewn seat.

This version is the first amongst the project of 12 special versions of the scooter. This means that Piaggio will release a new edition every year, based on the lunar calendar’s animal of the year.

The scooter gets a one-piece monocoque body which comes with an aluminium handlebar. It also gets saddle support, side panels, front mudguard and rear view mirror supports. The 946 rides on 12-inch aluminium alloy wheel rims. While the scooter gets disc brakes, the fins in the alloy represent the drum brakes of early Vespa scooters.

Technical specifications of the Vespa 946 10° scooter

The scooter comes with a 155 cc, single cylinder triple valve engine. The motor is air cooled and generates 12.7 HP @ 7,750 rpm and a peak torque of 12.8 Nm @ 6,500 rpm. Coming to the brakes, Piaggio has equipped the Vespa 946 with 220 mm discs on both ends. It also gets dual-channel ABS and traction control as standard.

The scooter has an 8-litre fuel tank and the seat height is same as that of the regular version, at 790 mm. The wheelbase is 1,340 mm. The Vespa 946 comes with all-LED lighting and a multi-information LCD screen in the instrument cluster.

Launch and availability

As of now, this limited version of the Vespa 946 is available only in the international markets. Infact, here in India, the 946 itself is not available so looks like this limited edition will not make its way to our shores.
