MY24 Honda ADV 160 maxi-scooter revealed

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Honda has been consistently upgrading its 150cc scooters to 160cc versions in international markets, including the recent transformation of the ADV 150 into the ADV 160 earlier this year. The ADV 160, now entering the 2024 model year, introduces a new colour option, bringing the total number of available colourways to four. As Hero has unveiled the Xoom 160 ADV-style maxi scooter, there is anticipation and hope that Honda will introduce the 2024 ADV 160 in India to compete in this segment.

What Is The Honda ADV 160?

The ADV 160 boasts an aggressive front fascia, featuring sleek headlamps and vertically mounted LED DRLs. The design includes a large transparent windscreen on the front apron, adding to the bike’s sporty profile and serving functional purposes. Key features of the scooter include stylish rear-view mirrors, a stepped single-piece seat, an upswept exhaust, and an elongated tail section. Despite entering the 2024 model year, there are no significant design changes, and distinctive features such as the sporty X-shaped taillamp, rectangular digital instrument console, and other elements remain unchanged.

The LCD instrument screen provides information, including time and date, speedometer, real-time fuel consumption, and air temperature. The design exudes a commanding road presence, although it deviates from the practicality of a step-through scooter. However, it compensates with a capacious 8.1L fuel tank and a generous 27L under-seat storage. The scooter retains features like the Honda Smart Key system, a front inner box with a 2L capacity, a smartphone charging socket, and an emergency stop signal.

Colour Options On Offer

In terms of colour options, the 2024 Honda ADV 160 introduces a new Pearl Bosphorus Blue, complementing existing choices such as Matte Dahlia Red Metallic, Pearl Smoky Gray, and Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic. Scheduled for sale in Japan on December 14, 2023, the pricing for the 2024 ADV 160 is set at JPY 473,000 (including tax), equivalent to approximately Rs. 2.6 lakh.

Mechanicals And Powertrain

Powering the Honda ADV 160 is a liquid-cooled 4V 156cc motor, delivering around 16 PS and 15 Nm of torque. The scooter incorporates Honda’s eSP (enhanced smart power) technology, ensuring optimal performance across diverse environments. The eSP system includes components like ACG Starter and programmed fuel injection, with the added benefit of an idling stop system to enhance fuel efficiency. The scooter features a double cradle frame with telescopic front forks, gas-charged twin rear suspension, block pattern tires, and disc brakes with single-channel ABS on both wheels.

With the imminent launch of Hero’s Xoom 160 in India, the market is ripe for Honda to introduce the ADV 160, creating a competitive scenario with Yamaha’s Aerox 155 in the sporty maxi-scooter segment. Given Hero’s pricing strategy, Honda’s ADV 160 could present a compelling value proposition for potential buyers.
