Written by Kanad Kalasur

Mercedes-Benz India has reopened the bookings for the AMG G 63 and Maybach GLS 600. For the first week, existing Mercedes customers will be given priority before opening the booking to other customers. The move comes thanks to the availability of higher allocations for the Indian market.

India is an important market for Mercedes-Benz

The move also highlights the importance of the Indian market to Mercedes-Benz. According to the carmaker, the high-end luxury segment in India is on the rise. In fact, Mercedes reported a 69 per cent growth in volume in the 2022 calendar year.

For 2023, the carmaker has planned a slew of launches. Amongst all these launches, over 50 per cent comprises models like the AMG E 53 cabriolet, AMG G 63, GLS Maybach, S-Class, S-Class Maybach, and the EQS luxury EV.

Mercedes-Benz India’s 2023 strategic roadmap

The carmaker has also revealed the brand strategy for 2023. Mercedes wants to be the most desirable car brand by offering an enhanced luxury experience to its customers.

Further, the German carmaker reported lower wait times compared to the previous year. The waiting period for these aforementioned high-end cars is said to significantly reduce by up to 6-10 months, depending on the model.

For example, the waiting period for the AMG G63 is now reduced to 12-16 months from earlier 24-36 months. Likewise, the waiting period for the GLS Maybach 600 is now reduced to 8 months for the single colour and 8-10 months for the dual-tone colour.

In other news, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Maybach brand’s first plug-in hybrid model. The Mercedes-Benz Maybach S580e plug-in hybrid is very similar to the standard version but comes with a few changes. These changes are hidden from the naked eye. Mercedes-Benz has offered a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine on the S580e. The numbers for this motor read as 367 BHP and 500 Nm. Further, an electric motor works in tandem with this engine, which has an output of 150 BHP and 440 Nm. Combined, the system output is a staggering 510 BHP and 750 Nm.
