Mercedes-Benz Maybach S580e plug-in hybrid revealed

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled the Maybach brand’s first plug-in hybrid model. The Mercedes-Benz Maybach S580e plug-in hybrid is very similar to the standard version, but it comes with a few changes. These changes are hidden to the naked eye.

Design of the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S580e

Coming to the car’s design language, the S580e is unmistakably a Maybach. It has minor changes, including a hidden charging port on the left side, a blue accent in the headlamps and a battery charging indicator on the instrument cluster. The luxury carmaker has not revealed any other changes other than those as mentioned earlier.

On the inside, expect Maybach to equip the same levels of features and tech as the regular models. We can further say that this plug-in hybrid will be as luxurious as its non-hybrid counterparts – meaning no expense spared luxury.

Powertrain of the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S580e

Mercedes-Benz has offered a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine on the S580e. The numbers for this motor read as 367 BHP and 500 Nm. Further, an electric motor works in tandem with this engine which itself has an output of 150 BHP and 440 Nm. Combined, the system output is a staggering 510 BHP and 750 Nm. This is sufficient to propel the luxo-barge to 100 km/h from a standstill in just 5.1 seconds. Mercedes says the top speed of the S580e is 250 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the car with a 28 kWh battery. This gives the sedan a WLTP-claimed all-electric range of 100 km. While the S580e comes with an 11 kW charger as standard, owners can also charge it using a 60 kW DC fast charger. The fast charger will enable 0-100 per cent charging in just 30 minutes.

Launch and timeline of the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S580e

This luxury car will first make its way to the Chinese market. Maybach will follow it up with other countries like Thailand, the European Union and lastly, other international markets. Expect Mercedes to announce the pricing of this car closer to the launch.
