Mahindra has officially launched the Alturas G4 SUV in India. This all-new 4th Generation SsangYong Rexton G4 is completely badged and sold as a Mahindra car now to rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. And yes, it does feel every bit premium compared to rivals.

The Alturas G4 is now the most expensive Mahindra car ever. Prices start at INR 26.95 lakh for the 4×2 AT and INR 29.95 lakh for the 4×4 AT (ex-showroom Pan India)

And the launch was a grand experience in itself. Positioning it as a product which redefines royalty, a royal family member, the Maharaja himself was present playing a game of horse polo ahead of the car being presented in front of the media.

The car measures 4850mm in length, 1960mm in width, 1845mm in height, 2865mm in wheelbase and has a fuel tank capacity of 70L with the ground clearance ranging between 180mm – 244mm depending on laden / unladen.

Powering the SUV is an all-new SsangYong developed 2.2L diesel motor with a single turbocharger. This 4-cylinder block produces 178 BHP of power and 420 Nm of torque matched to a Mercedes-Benz sourced 7-speed automatic gearbox.
