Honda planning CNG variant for the Amaze

With the i-DTEC, Honda has managed to gain good momentum when it comes to sales figures. The City, Mobilio and Amaze running on the diesel engine are quite popular among buyers. Now, Honda is planning to add a CNG variant to the Amaze compact sedan to attract customers who want the benefit of dual fuel and also, slightly cheaper running cost. Also, the CNG variant will be significantly cheaper than the diesel variant.

The CNG fueled variant will be powered by the same 1.2L, i-VTEC petrol motor producing 87 BHP of power and 109 Nm of torque. Since the petrol motor delivers 18 kmpl, expect the CNG fuel efficiency numbers to be slightly better.

Expect maximum of two variants coupled to the bi-fuel CNG option. Pricing is expected to be higher by ~Rs. 30,000 compared to the regular petrol variant.

This launch will happen at a time when Maruti also comes out with the Dzire facelift.

With CNG prices increasing steadily and the diesel and petrol prices going down off late, do you think this is the right move for Honda?
