Zingbus & NHEV plan to expand intercity e-mobility

Written by Kanad Kalasur

National Highways for Electric Vehicles (NHEV) and Zingbus have joined together for an e-mobility project. This aims to help private diesel bus operators to convert to electric buses and operate electric buses for intercity connectivity.

Zingbus’ EV and diesel bus comparison exercise

Zingbus has launched a pilot project by deploying an electric bus on an intercity route. This will help showcase the benefits of electric buses as compared to conventional diesel ones. The company says this pilot has reported a 15-20 percent lower running cost as compared with diesel buses. The EVs are better for the environment as well as will provide a sustainable future.

This pilot project with NHEV has showcased lower cost of operation, higher reliability and lower downtime. All these have resulted in increased passenger satisfaction along with higher revenues for the bus operator.

Initiatives by Zingbus and NHEV

As part of the tie-up, one of the initiatives is offering electric buses at upto 30 percent lower upfront cost. This is achieved by offering the batteries under a subscription model. To further improve the confidence of the electric bus operators, the new joint-venture will provide Roadside Assistance, Battery-as-a-Subscription, Lower upfront cost and minimum guaranteed bookings from the industry.

About Zingbus

Zingbus was founded back in 2019 and is currently the largest tech-based intercity bus service provider in India. They have more than 350 buses catering to 500 cities. They have serviced over 3 million customers across 18 states.

Electric buses are the future

These days, electric buses are in vogue. Many city bus service providers are already opting for EVs and replacing their diesel or CNG buses. The electric buses offer lower NVH as well as low cost of operation and are easier to maintain as well. Amongst intercity routes, electric buses are slowly gaining traction across routes like Mumbai-Pune, Delhi-Jaipur and so on. We will soon see electric buses operating on longer routes thanks to better batteries and improved charging infrastructure.
