Yamaha YZF-R3 has made a debut in UK and the bike will be priced at Rs.4,64,093 (converted). With this pricing, the R3 slots in above the Honda CBR300R but below the KTM RC390 and Kawasaki Ninja 300 in the UK.
Pricing when considered as per the Indian marketplace, sound a bit on the higher side. There is still no clarity if we will get the R25 or the R3 in India.
The R3 is powered by a 321cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, in-line twin cylinder petrol motor producing 42 PS of power @ 10,750 RPM and 29.6 Nm torque @ 9,000 RPM. Engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
The R25 is powered by a 249cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, in-line twin-cylinder petrol motor producing 36 PS of power and 22.6 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
With most of the big two-wheeler names now entering the Indian motorcycle space, Yamaha needs to be careful if they are looking at generating respectable volumes. The KTM RC390 has already created a pricing benchmark when power to price ratio is considered.
Come 2015, we will have a clearer picture about Yamaha and its R25 & R3, whichever is coming to India.
