Volkswagen India has officially announced that pre-bookings for the legendary Golf GTI will commence on May 5, 2025. The hot hatch, revered for its performance and motorsport heritage, will be available in limited numbers as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
Performance and Powertrain
The India-spec Golf GTI will be powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, delivering 265 PS and 370 Nm of torque. Paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission, the hatchback can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.
Volkswagen has equipped the GTI with performance-enhancing tech, including an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock and progressive steering, ensuring razor-sharp handling even in tight corners.
Design and Features
The Golf GTI retains its signature sporty styling, featuring a honeycomb grille with a red stripe, GTI badging, twin exhaust tips, and five-piece LED fog lamps. The 18-inch alloy wheels add to its aggressive stance, while the black roof provides a striking contrast.
Inside, the cabin is tech-loaded, boasting a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ChatGPT-enabled voice assistance, and a GTI-specific digital driver display3. The tartan-patterned sport seats, red contrast stitching, and leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters reinforce its performance pedigree.
Pricing and Availability
Volkswagen has yet to announce the official price, but estimates suggest the Golf GTI will be priced around INR 50-52 lakh (ex-showroom). Given its CBU status, high import duties contribute to the premium pricing.
Bookings will be exclusively online via Volkswagen India’s official website, with deliveries set to begin in June 2025.
