Yamaha working on a 150cc adventure bike for India?

Looks like there’s some good news for Yamaha fans in India. Looks like the Japanese bike maker is working on a new 150cc adventure bike for the Indian market. This was revealed by none other than Eishin Chihana, Yamaha India’s chairman during an interview.

What could be the Yamaha 150cc ADV?

The 150cc adventure bike will sit in the entry-level ADV segment. It seems a little hard to believe, but team Blue is considering a bike in the premium sub 150cc segment. This means one of either two things.

First is the possibility of getting the Yamaha WR155R dual-purpose bike. This was considered back in 2020, but did not materialise. In terms of market positioning, this bike could be placed between the Hero XPulse 200 4V and the Royal Enfield Himalayan. However, keeping in mind the cost of such a bike, it would seem little on the higher side. Additionally, the bike is more geared towards hard-core off-road and might be a hard sell except to a few enthusiasts. In India, the enthusiast crowd looks for touring more than proper off-roading. The Yamaha WR155R could end up being a bit too much serious for the crowd.

The second option is an all-new motorcycle based on the Yamaha FZ-X. A while back, Yamaha had organised a customisation challenge, wherein one of the winning entries was an FZ-X based Adventure bike. The same bike was later spotted outside a Yamaha dealership as well. This has led to the speculation that Yamaha could bring in this motorcycle. Being a derivative of the FZ-X, the price would be reasonable and much cheaper than the WR155R.

Revival of the Yamaha RX100

Yamaha has hinted that it is considering bringing back the iconic bike RX100. This comeback could take place in the second half of the decade. Hence we can assume a timeline of 2025 for seeing this bike on the road.
