Yamaha trademarks R9 in India, but the bike isn’t revealed worldwide

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Yamaha India has trademarked the YZF-R9 in India. And this makes us believe we could soon see the R9 on the Indian roads. Furthermore, Yamaha had already registered the R9 nameplate in Europe and Australia. And hence we can expect that the launch of the motorcycle is very near. The motorcycle has not been unveiled yet, but these trademarks registration indicates that the launch is now imminent. There are no official statements about the motorcycle, and hence there’s no confirmed news on the pricing.

What Could Be The YZF-09?

R9 has always been in talks ever since Yamaha launched the R7 in the international market. And if Yamaha chooses to use the Mt-09 platform for the motorcycle, we can make some assumptions. Starting with the engine, Yamaha’s R9 could use the 890cc motor that has a performance output figure of 119 HP and 93 Nm. Being a more track-oriented car, Yamaha could equip similar mechanicals as those on the top-spec MT-09 SP variant. This includes fully adjustable suspension, six-axis IMU, slide control feature and more.

The design will very much follow that of Yamaha’s new ‘R’ models similar to YZF-R7 and YZF-R15 unveiled this year. And hence we expect Yamaha to follow the same with the R9 unless proved otherwise. Trademarking the name does not necessarily confirm that R9 will arrive in India. Because there are chances that Yamaha might decide not to bring in the motorcycle, and that won’t be surprising at all.
