Yamaha Motor India will inaugurate its new facility in Chennai next month. This facility will be functional in 2015 with an installed annual production capacity of 4,00,000 units.
Considering the growth in the scooter market, Yamaha has chosen the Aplha scooter to be the first product which will enter production in this new plant followed by other products. Apart from this capacity expansion, Yamaha also plans to increase their touchpoints from the current 1,200 to 2,000 by next year.
Yamaha had sold 4.5 lakh two-wheelers last year and is targeting 6 lakh units for this calendar year.
For those expecting news on the R25 sportsbike, Yamaha is tightlipped and there are no details on the launch date and other India specific changes, if any on the motorcycle.
Yamaha is looking to gain 10% market share in the near future. It currently has a market share of only 3.68% as of August-September 2014.
