Yamaha has recently revealed the latest iteration of its popular MT-07 model, now equipped with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) option. This update marks a significant milestone for the middleweight naked bike, which has been a favorite among riders since its launch in 2014.
AMT Gearbox Option
The 2025 Yamaha MT-07 retains its iconic design but comes with several enhancements aimed at improving both performance and rider comfort. The most notable change is the inclusion of Yamaha’s Y-AMT system, which eliminates the need for a manually operated clutch. Riders can now choose between manually shifting gears using a finger-operated lever or opting for fully automatic gear shifts.
The AMT system offers two modes: D mode, which provides a balanced shift pattern for everyday riding, and D+ mode, which delivers a sportier feel with upshifts at higher rev ranges. This feature, combined with Yamaha’s ride-by-wire technology, allows for more precise control and a smoother riding experience.
Design and Chassis Upgrades
In addition to the AMT gearbox, the new MT-07 boasts several other upgrades. The bike now features a revised chassis, lighter spin-forged wheels, and new bodywork that reduces the overall weight by 1 kilogram. The ergonomics have also been improved, with a lower seat height, wider handlebar, and repositioned footpegs for a more comfortable riding posture.
Engine and Performance
The engine remains the same 698cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled unit, producing 72.4 bhp, but it now benefits from a revised airbox, new intake funnels, and ports on top of the fuel tank to enhance the intake noise. The braking system has been upgraded with a pair of four-piston radial calipers at the front, providing better stopping power.
Electronic Aids and Features
The new MT-07 also comes with a host of electronic aids, including switchable traction control, multiple riding modes, power levels, and cruise control. These features make the bike more accessible and user-friendly, catering to both novice and experienced riders.
Availability and Pricing
Yamaha has announced that the new MT-07 will be available in three color options: Ice Storm, Icon Blue, and Tech Black. While pricing details are yet to be confirmed, the company is optimistic about the bike’s potential success in the market.
