Yamaha recalls MT-09 & Tracer 9 GT motorcycles

Yamaha is recalling the MT-09 and the Tracer 9 GT motorcycles in the North American market for a fault. The recall is for stalling issue, which could affect around 3594 motorcycles. According to reports, improper ECU (Electronic Control Unit) programming could lead to the stalling issue in these motorcycles. Reports suggest that the unexpected stalling of the engine may lead to loss of control over the motorcycle and may cause a crash. However, it is important to note that no damage, crash, injury or death has been reported due to the recall.

The Recall

Yamaha MT-09 and Tracer 9 GT motorcycles manufactured between 10th November 2020 and 9th February 2022 may have the issue. Yamaha has advised owners of the motorcycle not to ride the bike for now. Customers are also urged to take their motorcycle to the nearest service dealer to get the motorcycles checked. Yamaha technicians will be reflashing the ECU, which is the solution to the problem. The brand also reveals that the malfunction is software-based, and no hardware is affected. The brand will start contacting the owners of the affected motorcycles on 17th March 2022.

Yamaha MT-09 and Tracer 9 GT – Highlights

The Yamaha MT-09 offers an aggressive streetfighter design with the latest features and technologies. The Tracer 9 GT, on the other hand, is a highway touring motorcycle that focuses on rider comfort. Both the motorcycles offer the latest onboard technologies and the new Yamaha CP3 engine with Crossplane crankshaft.

Powering the MT-09 and Tracer 9 GT is an 888cc three-cylinder engine. The in-line engine comes with a 4-valve DOHC valve distribution system. The water-cooled motor is capable of producing 120 PS of power and 93 Nm of torque. Yamaha offers electronic fuel injection and a constant-mesh return type 6-speed gearbox with a wet multi-plate clutch. The engine also comes with a new throttle-by-wire type YCC-T.
