Yamaha Ray ZR Hybrid Ride Review

Yamaha, in the second half of 2021, introduced the new Yamaha Ray ZR Hybrid scooter in the Indian market. At the time of its launch, the Yamaha Ray ZR came with a price tag of INR 76,830 ex-showroom. Around six months later, the price has been hiked by INR 1,000 on the ex-showroom price. The rising cost of input and freight costs have led to the price hike in 2022. 2022 also brought the Yamaha Ray ZR to our doorsteps so we could bring a comprehensive video review, so you can make an informed buying decision.

Yamaha Ray ZR Hybrid – Design and Features

The Yamaha Ray ZR Hybrid comes with the Shandaar Dumdaar Miledaar tagline. The new scooter comes with hybrid power assist for the engine, enhancing the power as well as the fuel economy of the vehicle. Compared to the earlier 113cc engine, the new Ray ZR comes with a 125cc Blue Core engine. The scooter also claims 30% higher output and 16% more efficiency. The scooter also comes with an ‘Armoured Energy” design language and “Motorcycle-Scooter Evolution” styling. The scooter also comes with a new metal plate addition enhancing its overall look.

The Yamaha Ray ZR Hybrid also comes with a unique “Automatic Stop & Start System” that prevents engine idling and starts with a single throttle twist. The “Smart motor-generator (SMG)” system on the Ray ZR also enable the scooter silent and have seamless starts. The scooter also comes with LED headlights and DRLs along with a Digital Meter Console, YMCC – X Bluetooth connectivity and 21-litre under-seat storage.

Yamaha Ray ZR Hybrid – Powertrain

Powering the Yamaha RayZR is a 125cc fuel-injected Hybrid engine. The air-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder motor produces 8.2 PS of power and 10.3 Nm of torque. The scooter tips the scales at 99 kgs. Thanks to the electric power assist on the Ray ZR, the rider feels reduced wobble during start-outs in tandem riding or during uphill climbs. The power assist system is automatically cancelled after 3 seconds or when the throttle is cut back.
