Yamaha in December 2023, launched the new R3 sport bike along with its naked street fighter sibling the Yamaha MT-03. The Master of Torque is based on the venerable R3 but comes with a completely new front end and upright seating position. The motorcycle however comes with the same features as the R3 and the same underpinnings. How’s the Pricing?
However, the Yamaha MT-03 is imported to India via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route, which means it attracts a lot of import duty and tax making it very expensive to own. The ex-showroom price for the Yamaha MT-03 is INR 4,60,639/- here in Mumbai. The indicative on-road price in Mumbai is close to INR 5.5 lakh and that is big money for the mid-spec street fighter. Its close competitor in the same engine segment, the Kawasaki Ninja comes with a price tag of INR 3.43 lakh ex-showroom. Even the premium Italian supersport, the Aprilia RS 457 comes with a price tag of INR 4.10 lakh ex-showroom.
Yamaha MT-03 – Technical Specifications
Powering the Yamaha MT-03 is a 321cc parallel-twin-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve engine. The engine produces 42 PS of power @10,750 rpm and 29.5 Nm of torque @9000 rpm. The motor comes with a constant mesh, 6-speed gearbox with a wet, multiple disc clutch, however, no back torque limiting slipper assist is on offer.
The Yamaha MT-03 is 2,090mm in length, 755mm in width, 1,070mm in height, and comes with a wheelbase of 1,380mm. The naked motorcycle weighs 167 kg at the kerb as well as as a 14-litre fuel tank. The MT-03 also gets a good 160mm of ground clearance and 780mm of seat height which is also very friendly to riders’ with inseam challenges.
