Xiaomi YU7 electric SUV: What is special?
The YU7 SUV is a direct competitor of the Tesla Model Y, which is a benchmark in the electric crossover segment globally. Xiaomi had earlier revealed the YU7, and it immediately received a tremendous response.
Now, the launch of the YU7 has been nothing but special for Xiaomi as the car garnered over 2.89 lakh bookings within the first hour of the launch. Due to this, the shares of Xiaomi went to an all-time high, marking a super debut for the company.
The much-awaited Tesla rival was revealed last month with a crossover design, and a 96.3 kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of up to 835 km on a full charge. These numbers are much higher than the Tesla Model Y’s 719 km range and 78.4 kWh battery pack.
Furthermore, Xiaomi launched its first-ever car last year, the SU7 sedan, which became an instant hit in China. It has been outselling the Tesla Model 3 in China since December due to its aggressive pricing and longer range.
Meanwhile, the YU7 has gathered three times more orders than the SU7 sedan, hinting at a long-term successful model lineup in the making. Online experts and speculations are stating that Tesla might have to cut down the prices to remain competitive with the Xiaomi cars.
The launch price of the YU7 SUV in China is 253,500 Yuan (approximately Rs 30 lakh). Such pricing is unbelievable considering the package YU7 offers.
Our verdict
While Tesla’s regime of being the top EV maker is slowly being snatched by the Chinese manufacturers, the brand is gearing up to enter India next month. Meanwhile, Xiaomi and BYD are aggressively expanding their footprint in the global market to become the top EV makers worldwide.
