Army Commanders Conference (ACC) was held on Friday, 21st April in Delhi. This ACC is a biennial event and is often dubbed as one of the biggest summits where Indian Army conferences are concerned. One of the key takeaways from the event was the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy retrofitted EV components.
What is Tadpole Project?
Tadpole Projects is the main creator behind this operation. This startup headed by Jawaad Khan is incubated under IIT-Delhi. The official website speaks of Tadpole Projects, which primarily works with vintage cars and Gypsy. The EV conversion includes a slew of kits and equipment. Such as a 30 kW battery enabling 120 km of claimed zero-emission drive.
Battery Options For Electric Gypsy
On its website, we see Tadpole offering four battery options. Of which there are two 48V EV architecture options. Then there is A 60V architecture option with 1920 Wh modules and lastly a 72V architecture with 8640 Wh modules. All battery modules benefit from IP65/67 rating. They also come with protection against overcharges, short circuits, and under-discharges. In fact, there’s an option for a smart BMS available too. Charging time is claimed at 2 to 6 hours. Tadpole also promises a 2-year warranty on the motor and a 3 or 5-year warranty for the battery. This is extendable for up to 7 years.
ICE Conversion To An EV
Conversion of an ICE to an EV is a comprehensive process. It involves swapping out engine components, locating suitable battery placement spots, installation of given batteries and then connecting the existing drivetrain with an electric motor. Many claims this is a great way of extending the life of an old ICE vehicle. Instead of scrapping, customers can opt for EV conversion kits like this. There is a slew of other benefits to these EV conversions as well. For starters, as mentioned this is a perfect way to extend the life of your favourite car. EV conversions also eliminate manufacturing pollutants.
