Volvo S90 axed, new E90 coming soon?

2025 Volvo S90

The S90 was a fully loaded sedan, which came equipped with the latest features and a solid build quality. It was introduced in India in 2021, while a facelift model was launched in April this year.

With that said, Volvo India is now only left with its SUV products. The S90 was the last sedan model in the company’s lineup.

The S90 was powered by a durable and powerful 2.0-litre, mild-hybrid petrol engine, which developed 205 bhp of peak power. It was priced at Rs 68.25 lakh (ex-showroom), and various dealerships were offering massive discounts due to the poor sales.

The S90 was offered in a single B5 variant, which was a fully loaded trim, including features like ADAS, 360-degree view monitoring, four-zone climate control, messaging and ventilated front seats, air suspension, and a 19-speaker 1,400W Bowers and Wilkins audio system.

Speaking of future plans, Volvo has showcased the E90, which is the electric sibling of the S90. It is based on the advanced modular platform, which houses a big 106 kWh battery and offers a range upwards of 700 km.

Our verdict

The Swedish carmaker Volvo has been a top-tier car manufacturer worldwide for years. Typically known for its ultra-safe cars, Volvo is dying a slow death due to the lack of new products and evolved designs. However, the brand is focusing on electrification, which seems to be the answer in the long run.
