Volvo has officially unveiled the 2025 S90 facelift, showcasing a blend of refined aesthetics, advanced technology, and improved hybrid powertrain options. The updated flagship sedan reflects Volvo’s commitment to sustainability and luxury, aligning with the brand’s ongoing transition towards electrification.
Volvo S90 facelift – what’s new?
The exterior design of the facelifted S90 draws inspiration from Volvo’s latest XC90 SUV. The sedan now features a sleeker grille with diagonal slats, slimmer Matrix LED headlights with the signature Thor’s Hammer design, and a sculpted bonnet. The front bumper has been redesigned with sharper air curtains and silver accents, while the rear sports new T-shaped LED tail lamps and an integrated boot lip spoiler. Two new metallic color options—Aurora Silver and Mulberry Red—add to the sedan’s visual appeal.
Volvo S90 facelift – Interior
Inside, the S90 boasts a more luxurious cabin with a larger 11.2-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system. The new display, powered by Volvo’s updated Car UX interface, offers improved responsiveness and supports over-the-air software updates. Enhanced sound insulation and a standard adaptive suspension system ensure a quieter and smoother ride, reinforcing the S90’s reputation as a comfortable long-distance cruiser.
Volvo S90 facelift powertrain
The S90 facelift is available with two powertrain options: a mild-hybrid system featuring a four-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a plug-in hybrid variant. The plug-in hybrid now delivers an improved electric-only range of 80 km, up from 74 km in the previous model. Volvo’s data indicates that nearly half of the distance covered by its latest plug-in hybrid cars is powered purely by electricity, highlighting the efficiency of the updated system.
Safety
Safety remains a priority for Volvo, with the S90 equipped with Pilot Assist, an advanced driver-assistance system. This feature includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic braking in stop-and-go traffic. The system also provides gentle steering inputs to keep the car centered in its lane, ensuring a stress-free driving experience.
The 2025 Volvo S90 will first go on sale in China, followed by other international markets. While the sedan was discontinued in India due to low sales, it remains to be seen if the facelifted version will make its way to Indian showrooms.
