Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Volvo Construction Equipment has announced the launch of the EC550E crawler excavator in India. As per Volvo, this machine will deliver the type of durability and performance more commonly expected from a 60-tonne excavator. Customers benefit from up to 35 per cent more productivity and 22 per cent more fuel efficiency. In addition to this, the excavator also guarantees superb operator comfort and outstanding levels of uptime.

More Productivity And Fuel Efficiency

Volvo mentioned this Crawler Excavator is available with a range of optimum-sized buckets. Thus, setting new standards for the industry. Furthermore, EC550E is also the perfect partner for wide-body 38-40t hauling equipment. This helps in reducing the number of required passes. Hence, dramatically improving cycle times. With superior swing torque and speed, the Crawler Excavator Features impressive engine power, thus delivering lifting capacity and digging forces more commonly found in a 60-tonne excavator. The excavator’s ultra-durable undercarriage with a long lower frame, a strong upper frame, and reinforced digging equipment adds to its capabilities. The optional wider retractable lower frame gives it further stability and higher ground clearance, expanding its applications to wider work segments.

The use of electro-hydraulic systems with Independent Metering Valve Technology (IMVT) and engine/pump optimization helps greatly in enhancing fuel efficiency. This works by lowering the engine rpm while optimizing power. Meanwhile, the main control valve uses Independent Metering Valve Technology which is the latest pioneering innovation from Volvo and the most advanced hydraulic system in the industry. With this, the drivers get significantly more precise control compared to a conventional system and contribute towards up to a 22% improvement in fuel efficiency as well. Volvo also offers a range of services to support the fuel-efficient performance of the machine further. One such offering is the Fuel Efficiency Reports and operator training initiatives.

Safety And Comfort

Volvo as a brand is renowned for delivering the ultimate in operator control, comfort and safety. And with the EC550E is no different. Operators will be getting the best cab on the market. The key features include a 14-air vent climate control system and ergonomic seat with 9 adjustment settings, a Boom and arm bouncing reduction technology that dramatically reduces machine shock. This results in more comfortable and productive operator performance.

In the safety department, the machine gets a 3-point seatbelt with a reminder alarm. There’s also a seatbelt cutter/hammer that assists egress through the emergency exit. Another key addition is the rearview camera and 10 LED lights positioned throughout the machine, including the rear. Furthermore, buyers also have the option to get the Volvo Smart View. This uses front, rear and side cameras to provide a real-time overhead view of the machine. This is especially helpful when working in confined spaces.

Easy Maintenance

Maintenance is also easy, thanks to a host of innovative features. The delayed engine shutdown feature helps to keep the turbocharger in the best condition by turning the engine off only when the turbocharger has cooled down. CareTrack, the Volvo telematics system, helps customers to maximize machine uptime and also reduce repair costs. With this, customers can choose to keep track of their machines themselves or let Volvo take care of it with ActiveCare.

The Volvo Uptime Center provides 24×7 machine monitoring. This includes supplying weekly reports and notifying customers of required preventive maintenance action. The equipped grouped filters and a battery cut-off switch ensure complete disengagement of the equipment while servicing. Features such as high-vis guardrails and handrails, bolted anti-slip plates, 3-point right-hand access to the upper structure, and an optional walkway are great adds-ons.
