Volkswagen India has updated the brand’s official Indian website and opened the new ‘Register Interest’ tab for the upcoming Volkswagen crossover SUV the Taigun. The Volkswagen Taigun was unveiled by the Volkswagen Group as the first product under the ‘India 2.0’ Project and will be based on the localised version of Volkswagen’s MQB (Modular Transverse Matrix) platform, called the MQB-AO-IN.

The Volkswagen Taigun is expected to be offered with a 1.5-litre TSI four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which is expected to makes around 130 PS of power and will come with cylinder deactivation technology to amplify efficiency. The technology is likely to be similar to the ‘ACT’ Active Cylinder Technology as seen on the Volkswagen T-Roc and has the ability to deactivate up to two cylinders depending on the driving style. The engine is expected to come with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

On the outside, the Taigun crossover SUV features a typical Volkswagen design DNA with a squared-off front end design and the car unveiled before featured a chrome-accented grille that is much-appreciated in the Indian market, squared-off LED headlights, air dam with a prominent wing-structure finished in satin silver, silver skid plate, bumper-mounted fog lamps, rounded wheel arches with premium gloss black cladding, black finished roof with satin silver roof rails, gloss black window beltline, chrome-finished rear bumper elements, silver skid plate, dual-tone alloy wheels, a roof-mounted spoiler, raked rear windshield and smoke effect wraparound LED taillights with an end to end light bar that joins the two ends.

While the interiors of the Taigun have not been revealed, the crossover SUV is expected to come with a multilayered dashboard, digital instrumentation, a large infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, premium upholstery and a plethora of active and passive safety features such as multiple airbags, ABS & EBD along with other driver aids and electronic intervention systems.

The Volkswagen Taigun is expected to be launched in the Indian market sometime in 2021.
