Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Today marks the day when VW India officially makes its plan of the ‘India 2.0’ programme a working reality. With the launch of Taigun in the country, this is the first car to have roots of the new era of Volkswagen in India. Following VW Group’s naming nomenclature for SUV, which starts with a ‘T’, Taigun promises to deliver what the brand is famous for, quality and driving experience. And this is also the first time that Volkswagen is launching an SUV in the mass market segment. Customers interested to know about the product can now visit their nearest showrooms.

Pre-Booking Offers and More

Volkswagen has also opened the pre-bookings for the car. And if you book one, you are eligible for a voucher worth INR 5,000 that is redeemable at the time of delivery. There are three ways in which customers can use this voucher. The first is that the customer will get INR 5,000 off on the purchase of an Extended Warranty. Or, the customer wishes to avail INR 5,000 off on the Service Value Pack of 2 years or beyond. Or, the customer can also get INR 5,000 off on specially curated accessories packages offered with the all-new Taigun.

Engines Options

Volkswagen is offering the SUV with two engine options, a 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI petrol. In terms of transmission, Volkswagen has chosen to bring back its fast-shifting DSG into the picture. There are four transmission options in total. The 1.0-litre engine is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. And the 1.5-litre engine is available with a 6-manual and a 7-speed DSG, which is exclusively for the ‘GT’ line. Based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, Volkswagen claims to have reached a localisation of 95 per cent.

Interiors and Features

The car gets a host of new features, which were missing with the current generation of the Polo and Vento. One of the critical feature highlights is the virtual cockpit, which is an 8.0-inch colour digital instrument colour. And this is exclusively available for the GT-line. The SUV gets ESC, ABS with EBD, airbags, and a reverse parking sensor with a camera in the safety department. The rear seats get a 60:40 split function, which increases the practicality of the car. The GT line comes packed with some exclusive features. This includes 17-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, LED headlamps, auto-dimming inside mirror, a sunroof, side and curtain airbags, a digital instrument cluster and more.

Price and Availability

As of now, the official figure is not out, and we expect the car’s pricing to follow its sibling, i.e. the Skoda Kushaq, which falls between the INR 10 to 18 lakh bracket (ex-showroom). The vehicle is available in 5 colours, Candy white, Wild Cherry Red, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel Grey and the new Curcuma Yellow.
