Despite Volkswagen cutting down on its plans to offer its Brazil market infotainment screens, it still has other plans. The German automaker has announced plans to invest USD 1.16 billion in South America and launch new compact cars. VW will launch its ‘Polo Track’ as the first model in its new family of compact cars based on teasers. Volkswagen will utilize its renowned MQB platform as its base for the Polo Track, similar to its other global products.
Volkswagen Production in South America
Specific details of the car are sparse, but VW has announced the arrival of the new entry-level segment in Latin America. VW aims to build a new manufacturing plant for its Polo Track in Taubate, Brazil, with the expected launch in 2023. Volkswagen currently expects a positive outcome on its investment plans in the region for the first time since 2013. By continuing its 5-year investment plan, VW aims to bring in local vehicle projects towards the South American region.
VW’s Green Future
In 2017, VW updated its portfolio and introduced 20 new vehicles within four years in South America. With this investment, VW also plans to digitize its products and reduce its carbon footprint throughout the region. Along with introducing a new biofuel research centre, VW also aims to invest in a green future. Thanks to connected cars and next-gen features, the automaker has pushed towards reinventing itself for an all-electric future.
VW plans to introduce dozens of new EVs and hybrids as IC engines fade away by the end of this decade. Despite EVs capturing a small slice of the global car market, the segment currently witnesses significant growth among the masses. Thanks to improved technology, reduction in pollution, and fuel expenses along with environmental benefits, EVs gain new buyers each year.
