Volkswagen has announced the introduction of a new variant for their Polo hatchback. The new 1.0L MPI petrol engine for the Polo will be available across all showrooms starting today. This new motor will be available across all trim levels of the Polo and prices for the Trendline variant start from INR 5.41 lakh (ex-showroom).

What’s interesting, is that this new 1.0L motor replaces the older 1.2L MPI engine. So all Volkswagen Polo 1.2L MPI variants will now be offered with the 1.0L MPI petrol unit. Volkswagen claims that this new smaller motor has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 18.78 kmpl.

Sold for over 40 years globally, the Polo was first launched in India in 2010. Ever since, the hatchback has received multiple updates, but even in its 8th year, the brand is showing no signs of a complete model change. Strange!

The new Polo 1.0L, MPI motor is a 3-cylinder block producing 76 PS of power @ 6200 RPM and 95 Nm of torque between 3000 – 4300 RPM matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox only.

The Polo comes with dual front airbags, ABS, engine immobiliser as standard safety features. Currently, one can buy the Volkswagen Polo in 4 trim levels – Trendline, Comfortline, Highline & Highline Plus.
