Big news for car enthusiasts! Volkswagen is gearing up to launch the Golf GTI hot hatch in India later next year. This much-anticipated model is expected to woo enthusiasts with its performance.
How and When?
The Golf GTI, known for its sporty design and powerful performance, will be imported under the government’s homologation-free import route. This means Volkswagen can bring up to 2,500 units a year without undergoing any homologation procedures. The hot hatch will be priced around INR 40 lakh (ex-showroom). This will put it in the high performance, luxury category. The hot hatch is expected to go on sale in August 2025.
Golf GTI – What to Expect?
The latest update for the hot hatch was revealed earlier this year, featuring a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that now produces 265 horsepower (up from 245 hp). The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, sending power to the front wheels only. Volkswagen claims the updated Golf GTI can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds, making it 0.4 seconds quicker than its predecessor.
The Golf GTI boasts a sleek design with 18-inch ‘Richmond’ diamond-cut alloy wheels, GTI badges, and contrasting red bits like a strip on the bonnet above the illuminated VW logo and red brake calipers. It also features Matrix LED headlights and 3D-looking LED taillights, both programmable with welcome and goodbye signatures via the infotainment screen.
Inside, the Golf GTI comes with a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with improved graphics and simpler menus. It also features a digital instrument cluster with GTI-specific graphics and a voice assistant with ChatGPT integration. The tartan seat upholstery and GTI steering add to the sporty feel of the car.
Volkswagen’s decision to bring the Golf GTI to India is a strategic move to tap into the growing demand for performance-oriented vehicles. The Golf GTI will compete with models like the Mini Cooper S, which is currently priced from Rs 44.90 lakh.
Stay tuned for more updates as Volkswagen gears up for the launch of the new car. This hot hatch promises to be a game-changer for car enthusiasts, offering a perfect blend of performance, style, and advanced features.
