Volkswagen launches Taigun GT Plus MT & GT DSG variants in India

Volkswagen India recently updated the Taigun and Virtus. The German carmaker has already launched the manual transmission variant of the Virtus GT along with the Taigun & Virtus GT Edge Limited Collection. Now the company has also come out with the new entry level models of the Taigun.

Taigun GT Plus MT and GT DSG : More Details

The Volkswagen Taigun is now offered in two new variants. The GT Plus MT will set back owners by 17.79 lakh while the GT DSG is priced at INR 16.79 lakh.

The GT DSG will offer a new entry level variant in the 1.5-litre engine option, while the GT Plus MT offers a manual gearbox with the same engine albeit in a higher trim with more features.

Powertrain of the Volkswagen Taigun GT

The top-end Taigun comes with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor. This engine offers 148 BHP of peak power and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. THe German carmaker offers both a 7-speed DSG and a 6-speed automatic with this engine. Further, the engine comes with an idle start/stop technology.

Volkswagen Taigun’s 5-star rating

Volkswagen Taigun has secured a 5-star safety rating under the updated protocol of the GNCAP. LIkewise, its sibling, Skoda Kushaq, also received the same 5-star result. These SUVs are based on the same MQB-A0-IN platform of the SKODA Auto Volkswagen India Group. Hence, the VW Taigun is one of the first cars to achieve a full 5-star rating in both the Adult and Child safety categories. In its reports, the Global NCAP said that the passenger compartment, as well as the footwell of the Volkswagen Taigun, remained stable in the frontal offset test.

Other safety features on the car include 3-point belts in all seating positions as standard in all versions. That said, the front passenger Airbag can’t be disabled. This means a rear-facing child seat can’t be installed on the first passenger seat.
