Volkswagen India begins deliveries of flagship SUVW Tiguan

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Volkswagen India has officially commenced the deliveries for its new Tiguan. In December 2021, the facelift Tiguan first made its mark in the Indian market. And with this, the company did fulfil its promise of launching four SUVs in 2021. Tiguan is one of the popular models across the world and India as well. This is pretty much evident from the fact that the model is already sold out for Q1 2022 in India.

There’s a significant demand for SUVs in the market, and the timing of the launch of Tiguan will perfectly resonate with the increasing demand. VW India has reinvented itself in India with its new India 2.0 project. Although Tiguan is not a product of this initiative, but the Volkswagen Group is surely in the news for all the right reasons.

What Changes Do We See In The New Model?

Apart from mechanical changes, there are some significant changes to the aesthetics as well. The first and significant change is the front grille. The new unit looks much more elegant as opposed to the big chunky ones present in the previous iterations. The headlight unit is also new and pairs up perfectly with the new grille. The side profile is almost the same and looked updated with a new set of alloys.

In the rear, the changes are even more minimalistic. Upon close scrutiny, one will notice the reprofiled LED tail lamps and the Tiguan branding in the centre. In the interiors as well, there are not many changes. The most noticeable change is the new steering wheel, 10-inch digital instrument cluster with three configurable displays, and the newly updated gear selector as well. For convenience, Volkswagen has now updated all the USB ports to C type. Customers now have the option to choose from 30 different ambient lightings.

Engine and Powertrain

In terms of performance, the duty is done by a 2.0-litre TSI motor. The engine makes 190 PS and 320 Nm, and with the 7-speed DSG, it’s a perfect match. Alongside this, Tiguan also gets VW’s 4Motion technology, which is the AWD drivetrain. Priced at INR 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom), customers might feel the price is a bit on the higher side. But, as an overall package, Tiguan is a worthy consideration.
