In an attempt to expand its service network, Volkswagen India added a new facility in Chennai. With this, VW India now has 22 sales and 16 service touchpoints in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry region. The new workshop is spread over an area of 36,980 sq. ft. and is located at Arcot Road, Chennai. Customers can avail of preventive maintenance, general repairs, and body & paint services at this service centre.
With a total of 21 bays and 54 service personnel, customers can expect a quick turnaround at this service centre. Following the revamp of the VW brand in India, the same is evident in the service centre as well. Matching VW India’s new design language, the service centre, too, gets a refreshing outlook. At the country level, VW India now has 152 sales and 120 service points spread across 114 cities.
With a lot of uncertainty and confusion around the production of Polo, finally, VW India confirmed last night that they have now retired the Polo brand in the country. The carmaker made a tribute to the nameplate by writing an emotional message on social media. Indeed, Polo is the product that made the name VW in the country. Launched way back in 2010, Polo made an instant impact in the market with its fun to drive character. Fast forward to 12 years, Polo remains true to its character and still remains the choice for enthusiasts in the hatchback segment.
With Polo out, the responsibility is now on the SUVWs and sedans to carry forwards the legacy of the VW brand. Kushaq has been selling in good numbers and the recently unveiled VW Virtus, too, looks quite promising. Under the ‘India 2.0’ initiative, VW has imbibed a host of India centric features and characters. This will help attract more customers to join the brand, thus adding more sales volume. With Polo out of the portfolio, would we see the global Polo make it into the Indian market? Well, frankly, there’s no official update regarding the same. Moreover, it is safe to say that Polo might not return back to the Indian market anytime soon.
